Stuff A Truck: Thank you for your generous donations to help families in our community.

Word Work: Our class will be learning about the r-controlled syllable pattern -ar this week. Words that follow this pattern include car, start, artist, and market. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.

Science: In our new unit, Work of Water students will explore how water shapes the Earth's surface. Students construct and use models of mountains to demonstrate that water flows downhill, and in the process, transforms huge rocks into the tiny grains of sand we find at the beach. Students will also construct and use model hills to determine the causes of erosion, and to design solutions to problems caused by erosion.

Lexia Core 5: Lexia is a fantastic program for growing readers as it works with all aspects of the English language that build stronger readers and writers. There are 21 levels to be achieved during elementary school. The 2nd grade levels are 10, 11, and 12. Students are given a required weekly goal of minutes and units to move them steadily through where they are currently placed. I work through the week to give them time to meet these goals. I have also encouraged them to access this at home if they are operating at lower levels. Students can do this by going to the SJPS Symbaloo, clicking on Clever, and then on the Core 5 link. This week, I will begin offering some practice opportunities during lunchtime recess as one more way for students to meet their weekly goal. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Family Holiday Breakfast: We are very excited to be bringing back the Lincoln Holiday Breakfast! This is a wonderful morning filled with delicious food, a fun craft, and books! The Holiday Breakfast will be Saturday, December 3, from 9-11 am. It is an open-house style, so stop by anytime that works for your family. Mrs. Warsow will have a take-home craft in the art room for students to make, Nick Geaney is whipping up a delicious pancake breakfast, and Mrs. Gruchot will have the book fair open for families to enjoy in the Media Center. There is no cost to families, but we do need a head count to ensure we have enough food. Please RSVP HERE by Monday, Nov. 28th so we can ensure we have ordered the correct amount of food. We hope to see you there as it is sure to be loads of fun and a great time to see many of our Lincoln Families!
