Word Work : This week, your child will be learning words that follow the closed syllable rule. This short vowel rule includes words like hat, shop, spend, chin, and gum. A list of words will come home to practice on Monday. Students may read the words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled. Word Work: Our class will be learning about the r-controlled syllable pattern -ar this week. Words that follow this pattern include car, start, artist, and market.
