Word Work: This week, your child will be learning words that follow the closed syllable rule.  This short vowel rule includes words like hat, shop, spend, chin, and gum.  A list of words will come home to practice on Monday.  Students may read the words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list. Words following this pattern can be found on Spelling City.  We do not have a paid subscription but students may enjoy using the free activities to reinforce the lessons being taught at school.


Conferences:  I plan to conference on October 10th, 11th, and 12th. A link will be posted on the blog on Monday evening after Back to School night. Please email me if the dates or times do not work with your schedule and I will make accommodations. Thank you!


NWEA:  We have taken our reading NWEA assessment this past week and will be taking the math portion this coming week. Please continue to have your child get plenty of rest each night and eat a healthy breakfast.  Thank you.


Nightly Reading:  Students are expected to read every night for 15 min.
