Weekly Update

10/4	We have Media Center. Library books are due.  Today is Maize & Blue Day.

Thank you:  I appreciate those of you who have been able to sign up for a conference time.  If you have not been able to select a day and time yet, please click on this link and select a time that works best for you.  These meetings will be done either in person or virtually and will last approximately 20 minutes.   If the time you need is not listed, please email me so that I can accommodate your schedule.

Word Work: This week your child will be learning words that are open syllables.  This includes words like; be, by, me, and cry.   The words can be found on Spelling City to practice.  Please remember to use the list that comes home to practice reading words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.

Math: Our second graders have been discussing the connection between addition and subtraction facts within 20.  They have been practicing finding the missing addend going through 10 and playing games.  Students can practice finding sums to 10 by playing Fishing for Ten using an ordinary deck of cards.

Reading: Students are learning to analyze characters by using illustrations and text. Please continue your nightly reading routine and have your child select adjectives that describe a character and tell why the adjective was chosen.
