Conferences:  Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to meet with me to discuss your child.  Each conference is scheduled for 20 minutes. If we find we need more time, we can schedule an additional conference. I would like to do my best to stay on the schedule. Please send me an email if you have questions or concerns about our conference. If you still have not signed up for a conference, please use this link to choose a time or contact me with a time that works for your schedule.

Word Work: This week your child will be learning words that have the long-a digraph pattern.  This rule includes words like brain, weight, tray, and whey.   The words can be found on Spelling City to practice.  Please remember to use the list that comes home to practice reading words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.

Math Progress:  Over the last few weeks we have been working on adding and subtracting within 50.  Some of the problems include finding missing addends, minuends, and adding double digits.  We have discussed the numerous ways to show our work, including decomposing numbers, drawing diagrams, using tools like base 10 blocks and Unifix cubes.   Finally we have been playing a game where cards are laid out and students find 3 out of 5 to get closest to 20 and 4 out of 7 to get closest to 50.   This week we will start with collecting and analyzing data.
