Word Work: Our class will be learning about the long i digraph syllable pattern this week. The following words are examples of this pattern: light, sigh,tie, and pie. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week. 


Math:  Second graders are starting Unit 3: Measuring Length. We will have opportunities to measure using inches and centimeters. Students will also relate measurements to using a number line. Our second graders continue working on mastering their addition and subtraction facts through 20.

Word Work : This week, your child will be learning words that follow the closed syllable rule.  This short vowel rule includes words like hat, shop, spend, chin, and gum.  A list of words will come home to practice on Monday.  Students may read the words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
