Word Work: We continue to learn our syllable pattern makes the sound as in push, could, and shook.  Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week. 


Valentine's Day Party: Thank you so much to everyone who made our party a success by either sending in supplies and/or volunteering. The kids enjoyed playing Bingo, having food, passing out Valentine's and of course getting to look through all the goodies. It is hard to believe that was our last 2nd grade party-time sure does go by quickly.


Parent Teacher Conferences: I look forward to meeting with you and your child over the next two weeks. The students have been working hard to put together a nice presentation of where they are in their learning and what their goals are by the end of 2nd grade. I am very proud of them for tackling this new adventure with me. Due to the uncertainty of how this works, I have set a goal of 15 minutes for the conference and 5 minutes for wrapping up so that I can stay true to the schedule. Please forgive me if I am running over. If we need more time in a conference, we can schedule it for a later day. If for some reason you are not able to make your scheduled time, please let me know as soon as you can. Thank you so much for your support!


Upton Planetarium Field Trip: On Friday, February 24th, our class will be traveling to Upton Middle School to visit the planetarium. There is space for a couple of parents to attend with us. If you would like to go, your approved paperwork by the district must be filed in the office, and I need to know by Wednesday, February 22nd. You may meet the bus at Upton at 9:30 a.m. Thank you


Sarett Nature Center Field Trip: Our second graders will be traveling to Sarett Nature Center on March 10th in the morning.  We will be learning about maple sugaring and need to dress for the weather.  Parents are welcome to join us at Sarett but there is an admission fee.  More information will be coming soon.  Please email me if you are planning to attend as there is specific information you need to know.

Word Work : This week, your child will be learning words that follow the closed syllable rule.  This short vowel rule includes words like hat, shop, spend, chin, and gum.  A list of words will come home to practice on Monday.  Students may read the words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
