Word Work: Our class will continue learning about contractions such as we'll, didn’t, she’s, and you’ve this week and the week following spring break. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the Unit 19 practice list for the week. 


Poetry Month:  We are excited to celebrate poetry month in April.  With so many choices we have narrowed our focus down to three types of poems.  We will learn about bio, cinquain, and diamante poems.  We look forward to exploring this topic with your children.  Please feel free to help us celebrate this month by sharing other kinds of poetry that you enjoy with your child.   


Springtime Activities:  The days are getting longer and busier as spring activities are getting underway.  Please help your child perform well by getting enough sleep and continuing 20 minutes of reading as well as 5-10 minutes of math fact practice nightly.  We appreciate the encouragement and support you give your child to do his/her best at school each day.  Thank you


Library Books:  Please help your child remember to return or renew his/her library books.  The media center is asking students to return late books and monitor how many books they have checked out to ensure all books are returned by the end of the year.


Music Performance:   Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 19th.  This is the day our 2nd graders will perform their show.  The performance will take place at the high school at 6:30.  Mrs. Mileham has shared this website with us to help students practice their songs and their parts. It’s A Jungle Out There!

We can’t wait to see you there at 6:15 to get ready!

  Weekly Update September 18, 2022 9/19 Today is Maize & Blue Day!   We have Media Center.   Remember tonight is Back to School Night for parents only.     I look forward to seeing you at 5:45 pm. 9/20 We have art. 9/21 We have a late start.  School will start at 9:25 a.m.    9/22 We have gym.      Today is Picture Day!  9/23 We have music. Word Work : This week, your child will be learning words that follow the closed syllable rule.  This short vowel rule includes words like hat, shop, spend, chin, and gum.  A list of words will come home to practice on Monday.  Students may read the words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
