Welcome to my 2nd grade blog  Second grade is such a wonderful time.  So much growth will take place in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.  This will also be a great year of making new friends.  I am very excited to provide a year's worth of experiences that help guide my students toward a bright and successful future.

Word Work : This week, your child will be learning words that follow the closed syllable rule.  This short vowel rule includes words like hat, shop, spend, chin, and gum.  A list of words will come home to practice on Monday.  Students may read the words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
